KSC finishes Speedo Senior Sectional Championship with highest team finish by a Hawaii Team in History!
The KSC men finished 6th overall and the women finished 8th with a combined team finish of 8th overall out of over 170 teams. The performance was highlighted by a new Sectional Championship record from Jasmine Mau in the women’s 100 Fly. Jasmine also finished first with a new Hawaiian Age group and Open record in the women’s 50 free with a time of 22.70.
KSC got off to a fast start on the first night of the Speedo Northwest sectional championships. The men's 800 free relay quartet of Austin Hirstein, Ryan Stack, Jake Urbano and Kale Ai finished second overall in a blistering time of 6:42.93. Their time was less than a second off the sectional record. The women's 800 free relay team of Jasmine Mau, Lena Hayakawa, Rebecca Walton, and Maia Petrides placed as well with a 15th place finish. Jake Urbano also got on the awards stand with a sizzling time of 9:24.59 in the men's 1000 yard free to finish 7th overall.
The excitement continued on day 2 as Jasmine Mau finished runner up in the 100 free to Olympic Champion and World Record holder Missy Franklin. Jasmine’s time of 49.04 was also a new Hawaiian Age Group and Open record. On the men’s side, Kevin Frifeldt broke the 15-16 boys Hawaiian Record with an 8th place finish in the men’s 100 free with a time of 45.20. Later in the evening Jasmine Mau returned to the pool with another 2nd place finish in the women’s 200 fly with a time of 1:58.63. Jacob Urbano also had a scoring swim finishing 16th in the men’s 200 fly with a time of 1:52.01. The women completed the evening with a 12th place finish in the 200 medley relay and the men finished 8th.
KSC had scoring swims on Friday of the competition with a 5th place finish by the men’s 200 free relay and a 12th place finish by the women’s 200 free relay.
KSC was back in the pool on Saturday as Jazzy Mau shattered the sectional record en route the title in the women's 100 Fly. Her time of 52.77 was also a Hawaiian age group and Hawaiian open record. Jasmine also finished 11th in the women's 100 back with a time of 55.54. Austin Hirstein finished 6th in the men's 100 breast with a time of 56.33. Kevin Frifeldt finished 15th in the 100 fly. Other KSC scoring swims came from the men's 400 free relay team of Ryan Stack, Kevin Frifeldt, Austin Hirstein and Jacob Urbanon who finished 5th. Swimmers Kanoa Kaleoaloha, Tomas Sodini, Kale Ai and Sean Terada finished 16th.
The final day of finished with a bang as Jasmine Mau finished 1st in the women’s 50 free with a time of 22.70 to become the first KSC athlete to win 2 Senior Sectional events in the same competition. Austin Hirstein had a spectacular finish in the men’s 200 IM to finish 5th overall in a time of 1:50.39. Kevin Frifeldt finished 15th in the men’s 50 free with a time of 20.97. In the final event of the evening KSC women finished 12th in the 400 Medley relay and the men finished 11th and 16th respectively.
The entire meet was a huge success as the 18 KSC swimmers that participated made it the best finish by a Hawaii team in the history of the event. Congratulations to all the swimmers who participated!
