Hawaiian Records Highlight Strong Team Performance at Age Group Sectionals

Kamehameha Swim Club had its best finish to date last weekend at the Age Group Sectional Championships in Federal Way, WA.  Twenty-two KSC swimmers participated in the meet finishing 8th out of 156 teams.  This was a huge improvement from the 22nd place finish in 2013.

Three new Hawaiian State Records were broken by KSC swimmers.  Jamy Lum won the 12 year old 50 Breast with a new record of 31.37.  The 10 and under girls won both of their relays in State Record times.  Grace Monahan, Sofia Carlson, Lauren Croll, and Noelani Nakaya combined for a 1:56.62 in the 200 free relay.  The same four girls raced to victory and record time in the 200 medley relay with a 2:09.73.

Grace Monahan rocked the 10 and under age group with victories in all 6 of her races.  Grace won the 50 fly 29.39, 50 free 27.35, 100 fly 1:04.97, 100 free 1:00.35, 200 free 2:11.09, and 200 IM 2:27.73.  Also contributing major top 3 performances in the 10 and under age group were Lauren Croll's 36.70 50 breast for 3rd, and Sophia Carlson's 3rd place 27.84 in the 50 free.

Jamy Lum added to her new state record in the 50 breast with a 3rd place finish in the 100 going 1:10.24.  Olivia Stoetzer sprinted to a 25.67 in the 50 free for 3rd, Casey Garcia earned a 3rd in the 100 breast with a 1:12.96, and Allen Hayakawa finished 3rd in the mile with a 17:15.32.

KSC swimmers raced to many best times during both relay and individual competition, placing multiple swimmers in finals races.  Adding to the great team performance included swimmers Erin Patterson, Sophi Harrison, Naomi Nakaya, Mariah Walton, Leigh Farah, Kayla Almeida, Lina Namatame, Mari Yasumi, Michael Petrides, Jarrett Takahashi, Noah Carlson, Nicholas Nakaya, Jason Hiremath, and Jeffrey Collins.
